Presenting “(DON’T) LOOK ME IN THE EYES” – work in progress.
A dance performance inspired by the story of the Greek myth of Medusa and the Gorgon sisters is a piece for three human performers and two robots; that tackles the relationships between bodies and technology and the concept of the monstrous feminine, aiming to reflect on the representations of women in the foundational narratives of Western culture. It attempts to displace the issues that the myth triggers into a sci-fi dystopian future, tracing a line that connects past and future to understand and confront some of the problems from the present we inhabit.
Ainhoa Hernández Escudero is a Madrid-born and Amsterdam-based performing arts artist. She is following the Master program DAS Theatre at the Academy of Theatre and Dance. Her practice is situated between choreography, theater, and the curatorial. Her work traverses ancient counter-hegemonical traditions and esoteric practices, traditionally performed by women - focusing on witchcraft, herbology, and rituals. She feels the urge to delve into the strange; that which is difficult to understand, explain or classify. Pop aesthetics and mainstream culture inherent in today's reality also influence her work.

This successful program of the Amsterdam Fund of the Arts (AFK) and Bureau Broedplaatsen in collaboration with renowned Amsterdam institutions is now regarded as the best practice in the field of talent development.

Bureau Broedplaatsen is part of the municipality of Amsterdam. Its task is to realize more affordable studios and (residential) workspaces for artists and incubator groups. Bureau Broedplaatsen does this in collaboration with target group organisations, city districts, central services, corporations, real estate agents, developers, and banks.
