Doris Wennekers

Netherlands
/AUTODIDACT/

As a participant in the Likeminds Factory, Doris showed herself last year as a strong physical performer with a great need to expose social themes. For example, she made her first solo performance about the bio-industry: 'At the Table'. She puts down her frustrations, insecurities, and research with her grammar.

She is developing into an idiosyncratic maker with a particularly bizarre visual signature. Doris belongs to the new generation of young makers who look at the world from a different perspective. The generation that does not take over everything blindly but questions itself and others about small and more significant issues that play out in the world, but also in their own internal world and in the city.

PRESENTING

Doris presents process documentation of "Reclaim", a physical performance in which the freezing response to sexual trauma is defrosting. In Reclaim, the effects of sexual trauma are reconstructed and experienced, and human identity is reclaimed. From a girl on the street to a human in a female body. In a scraping solo inspired by the visual element of EMDR therapy, the victim and the perpetrator are brought to light.
In videos, Doris will talk about the making of and the outcome. Under the guidance of Charles Pas and Likeminds, she researched how she could place a story in space with her own body.
