Frédérique Gagnon

/PUBLISHING/ PERFORMANCE/

Frédérique's work investigates the fullness of the tactile body in relation to the flatness and detachment of the digital. In an effort to depict traces of the human process and its presence, she focuses on the "stupid real" and anticlimactic situations. She uses these self-sabotaging mechanisms in hopes of conveying a desire that the work would become a reality and feel more present. Even if this materiality is just a feeling, similar to the viscosity you feel through certain words in your mouth.

PRESENTING

For my contribution, I would like to look at the intrinsic possibilities of “corporate cocktail parties” as a support for the production and circulation of works — the voided structure offering multiple sites for publishing of visuals, gestures, writings, etc.

By claiming authorship over the different facets, the workings/mechanisms become emphasized and attention is drawn to ways of erecting realities, undermining the implicit illusion. Interventions will include: a finger buffet to hide sculptures; menus, wine labels and napkins to conceal a printed matter; framed images and performers taking cover as DJs and waiters…

The ensemble will attempt to address the body whole, rather than privilege sight [or] hearing [or] taste… the work finding its home within the body of the audience.
