Steff Geelen

/AUTODIDACT/

Steff is a writer and theatre practitioner with a background in sociology. Alienation and disembodiment play an important role in their work. Their characters are often adrift, estranged from society and its logic, others or their own body and searching for liberation within liminal zones, spaces, rituals or states of mind where the rules and norms are not (yet) solidified, but disorienting or ambiguous. Places where the borders between inside and outside, self and other, sanity and insanity are punctured, rippled and eventually fall away completely.

PRESENTING

MANNISH
This work is personal and philosophical research about the male gaze. What if the body remembers every gaze? That they are collected underneath the skin where spines start to grow? What if the body cannot be embodied, you always stay floating, one centimeter above the skin as a space traveler, a lost astronaut? In Mannish a non-binary character tries to map the memories of the skin to uncover what they see and how they are seen.
