Tasha Arlova
Belarus/ENGAGED ART/
Tasha is a multidisciplinary artist working on the intersection of film, photography, poetry, and performance. Her work is driven by personal experience that connects to more significant themes, such as gender, immigration, and civil disobedience.
Tasha graduated from Gerrit Rietveld Academie with her short film “Dear Revolution” (2021), a poetic essay about her memories and experience of the crucial democratic protests in Belarus. From 2020, Arlova organized and co-curated several events dedicated to art as a form of protest, such as the Belarus // Art of Resistance exhibition in Arti et Amicitae, Freedom Lecture at De Balie, and others.
PRESENTING
“Call me Home”, a cinematic and poetic essay about home and a lost sense of belonging. It's a collaborative work with composer Mojan Alaiyeh and visual artist Polina Mirovskaya. Photography is accompanied by poetry on broad themes like womanhood and isolation, intimacy and detachment, migrant labor and loss. Lost in translation - the voice can be heard in a foreign language, isolated from its original meaning and intensity.
